Forwarding AppalNet Mail to Your School or Personal Email Account |
AppalNet is a web-based system that includes many options for students including, but not limited to announcements, a calendar that can be share with other Pipeline users, links to important student services, and email. The university establishes automatic email accounts to students that allows instructors to send messages to members of their classes and that the university uses to send certain messages to selected groups (though the announcements section of AppalNet will take up much of that task.
You already have a AppalNet account, including email and the university assumes that you are using that email account. You can access AppalNet by going to http://appalnet.appstate.edu.
If you don't know your username for this system ask the instructor of your class. He/she gets a list of student ASU email addresses. Your initial password (if you have never logged on to AppalNet) is your ASU Student Identification number (SID).*
Upon first logon you will be required to change your password.
If you don't wish to use AppalNet as your email account you can forward AppalNet email to the account you wish to use. It is very simple:
1. Logon to AppalNet.
2. Select Email (center, top of the screen)
3. Select the Options tab in Email.
4. Select the Auto Forward option.
5. Enter the email address you want to forward your mail to.
Your AppalNet password is supposed to be changed every 90 days. However, if you are forwarding Appalnet email that service will continue to operate even if you don't change your password.
AppalNet accounts remain active as long as you are an enrolled student and over summers. They terminate after graduation.
*On August 19, 2002 all student accounts will have their password reset to the student SID. Even if you have accessed AppalNet before you will have to use your SID and change your password again.
