Mississippian Period Village 1420 AD
The Mississippian peoples lived in large villages that were surrounded by a palisade, or tall fence. Some villages contained large mounds of dirt. Very important buildings sat on the mounds. Mississippian people farmed corn, beans, squash, and sunflowers for food. They also hunted deer and bears. They used animals for food, clothing, and shelter.
