ON-LINE SOCIAL STUDIES PROJECT

Call for Partcipation

We would like to try something new at College Park this year. Mr. Triplett, Mrs. Lowman, and Mrs. Lail have been working together to develop an online social studies project. Please read this form, have your parents read it, both of you sign it, and return it to Mr. Triplett or Mrs. Lail by August 11, 1997.

This project will count as two grades (two tests). It will be due September 12, 1997. It will be graded on how well the requirements were met, with consideration given to any difficulties that may arise with the technology.

The project has several parts:

I. Gathering information (50 points possible)

A. "Print" resources (World Wide Web, CD-ROMs, books, magazines, encyclopedias, etc.)

B. Human sources (e-mail, chat rooms, discussion groups, listservs)

C. Land pollution activity (roadside cleanup)

II. Analyzing information (50 points possible)

A. Compare and contrast the amounts of different kinds of land pollution among the different

countries studied (spreadsheet)

B. Summarize findings in a well-written essay with a bibliography (word processor)
