1. Filter the spreadsheet selecting only the acids. Look at the cations and anions for the acids. Do all acids have anything in common? If so, what is it?
2. Filter again, but select only the bases. Do all the bases have any thing in common? If so what is it?
3. Now filter for the salts. Do you find a pattern when comparing the cations or anions of the salts? If so, what is it?
4. Write three rules to use when classifying inorganic compounds by their chemical formulas as acids, bases or salts. Rule 1 Acids. Rule 2 Bases. Rule 3 Salts.
5. Binary compounds contain 2 elements. Find all the binary compounds, using the filter or sort options. You choose. Now edit the binary/ternary column for those compounds.
6. Ternary compounds contain 3 or more elements. Repeat the steps in # 4 for ternary compounds.
