Welcome to our Second Session Assignment
Week 1:
Technology visions
Read the vision for technology in your institution (this should be found in your technology plan). For your department. How do these visions relate to the use of technology as mindtools? Is there a relationship between the state's vision for technology and the visions you find locally? Can you determine if your colleagues understand and accept this vision? In what ways is this vision manifested in the classroom and in students graduating from your programs? Share your findings and thoughts with us on the discussion board under visions.
Tools for enhancing instruction
Investigate the The Slone Project which offers some interesting insights on distance education teaching.
Explore tools available for enhancing instruction with technology. You might start with tools that are available but not familiar to you. Here is an interesting one I just found: Webdesign. How does this fit into the idea of mindtools? Share with the class your findings on the discussion board under the topic IT Tools.
Read and discuss one of New York's initiatives. What are the implications of these ideas for your programs and institution? Can you find other examples of transformational initiatives that are being tried or implemented at this time?
Read the Impacts of college-level courses via Asynchronous Learning Networks: Some Preliminary Results . What conclusions can you draw form this report?
Continue to read and discuss the book you have chosen to explore and explain a general theme or two on the discussion board under your group's discussion area.
Explore some of these examples of courses offered on line and at a distance.

Reflections
What do you notice about these programs and courses? What kinds of instruction are available? What similarities do you find with these opportunities? How would you compare these offerings with the offerings at your institution? Determine the various tools each uses in order to facilitate instruction. Can you envision delivering your program with computer assistance or with DE technologies? What would this program look like? What should be the policy of the state government toward DE programs for your discipline? Enter some of your reflections on the discussion board under the topic "programs and courses".
