1. All
of the following represent Fabrizio except one.
After selecting your choice, explain why to the group.
a. Compassionate
b. Trustworthy
c. Irresponsible
d. Loyal
The answer that
does not belong is C (Irresponsible).
Throughout section one, Fabrizio proves that he is compassionate and
loyal by showing his love for his master, and father figure, Mangus. In addition, Fabrizio proves the he is
trustworthy by following Mangus’s orders to let no one in the house, and by doing
this; Fabrizio is being responsible, rather than irresponsible.
2. On
page 4, how do you think that Fabrizio was feeling after there was a knock on
the door? Take into consideration that
he had just cast the tarot cards.
I think that Fabrizio was feeling
very terrified and upset because he thought that death was knocking on his door
since he had just cast the “DEATH” card.
I think that he fears that he is going to be responsible for his
master’s death since he did cast the cards.
In addition, I think that Fabrizio feels that if he would not have cast
the tarot cards, then there would be no knock at the door.
3. When
describing the hallway into the castello on page 22, the author uses figurative
language to do so. He describes that
walking through the halls made Fabrizio think they had been swallowed. Why did the author choose to use figurative
language to describe the hallway versus just saying that it was cold and dark?
The author used
figurative language to describe the hallway so that the reader could gain more
feeling about it. By using the
figurative language, the author is creating an atmosphere for the reader to
visualize. Figurative language is more
powerful when trying to get the reader to envision an object while reading.
4. While
in the carriage on the way to the castello, Mangus asks Count Scarazoni if he
is to be put to death, and in response, Count Scarazoni draws his dagger and
used it to snuff out the candle in the carriage, creating total darkness. What do you think Count Scarazoni wanted to
accomplish by doing this? (Page 18, last line – Page 19, lines 1 and 2)
I think that
Count Scarazoni is trying to create a feeling of fear in both Mangus and
Fabrizio. By using his dagger to create
total darkness, I think that he is signaling to Mangus that he can use the
dagger to create total darkness in his life, meaning that he can kill Mangus if
he wants to. By not saying anything and
just completing the process of snuffing the candle, Count Scarazoni has created
an element of fear and terror in both Fabrizio and Mangus.
5. Describe
the mood on page 7 when Fabrizio finds out that the person knocking on the door
is calling from the castello.
When Fabrizio
finds out that the castello is calling for Mangus again, the mood is very sad
and melancholy. Fabrizio is very
depressed because Mangus has already been tried for being a magician and he
fears that this time it will result in Mangus’s death. In addition, Farbizio is unhappy because he
is the one that must go tell Mangus the news.
6. At
the end on section one, on page 24, what do you think will happen to Mangus and
Fabrizio? What do you predict that the
King wants from them?
I predict that
the kings wants Mangus to do something for him and that he is not calling for
him to be tried again. However, I predict
that Count Scarazoni is up to something and may want to get rid Mangus this
time since he did not have the opportunity to do so the last time.
