mIDNIGHT MAGIC

The story begins in 1491 in the Kingdom of Pergamontio, in the home of Mangus the Magician at midnight.  Prior to the beginning of the story, Mangus was tried by the king for performing Wizardry. Therefore, the story opens with a little boy, Fabrizio, who is the magician’s servant casting tarot cards.  The boy cast the cards and they appear in this order: The Magician, The Servant, The Castello, The King, The Ghost, The Princess, The Tutor, The Queen and then finally (the most important card) Death.  Once he sees the cards, Fabrizio is terrified that his master is going to die as a result of the death card.  Just as he lays down the death card, there is a knock at the door and it is a soldier from the castello.  This creates a problem because Mangus is summoned back to the castle. After telling Mangus of the summons, Fabrizio accompanies Mangus out the carriage that has come to retrieve them.  As they enter the carriage, they see a very unpleasant man that they recognize from Mangus’s earlier trial, named Count Scarazoni. Once inside the carriage, Mangus inquires about the reason that he has been asked to the castello again, and Count Scarazoni does not respond, he simply snuffs the candle out, creating total darkness.  Once they arrive at the castello, Fabrizio and Mangus are lead through several hallways and finally led into a waiting room.  Section one ends with them being called in to see the king.
