Right when she wakes up she thinks of the carnival that is coming to town and the next thing is that Adam will not be able to go because he is in New York buying clothes.  Hattie wonders if who bought Adam's clothes while he was away because his clothes didn't fit too good.

She don't have any friends her own age, we read earlier that she only had one friend, Betsy, and she left for the summer.

3. (trait) excited p. 70

Hattie gets really excited when the carnival parade comes down the street and on the way to the carnival on the opening night.

Hattie’s goal is to make a new friend with the girl at the carnival.

Hattie’s problem is she is shy and don't talk to others well.

Go to the carnival everyday and get enough courage to talk to the girl.
