The state nick name is “The Last Frontier.”  It means great land from the Aleut word.

The capital is Juneau, with a population of 30,684.

The motto is “North to the Future,” which was created during the Alaska Purchase.  It shows that Alaska is a land of promise.

There are official state holidays that are celebrated also.  On March 31, it is Seward’s Day, which commemorates the signing of the treaty when the United States by Alaska from Russia in 1867.  Alaska Day is October 18, which is the anniversary when they transferred the territory and when they raised the U.S. flag at Sitka in 1867.

This is the state flag- blue is for the sky and the forget-me-

not, state flower.  The North Star is for the future of Alaska,

since Alaska is the northern most state.  The dipper is for

the Great Bear, symbolizing strength.
