This passage is an _informative and surprising__type of passage because__we  find out that Beezus’s feelings were really hurt by what Ramona said.  Surprisingly, Ramona sets the table because she felt guilty about what she did.  She did not know what to say, and she thought by doing the dishes, she might make it up to her sister__.

The author includes this passage to show you that Ramona feels really bad about what she did. She does not know how to fix things, and she thinks if she does chores, it will make it up to Beezus.  We also know that Beezus was really hurt by the comment Ramona made and washes her face again.
