Summarizer for Next Stop Freedom

Part One

 

Your job is to give a brief summary of the story.  Include in your summary the beginning, middle, and end of the story. 

 

 

• The beginning of the story tells:

-         who the main character/characters are

-         where the story takes place

-         when the story takes place

-         what the problem is

 

 

• The middle of the story tells:

-         the plot of the story (what happens in the story)

-         how the characters try to solve the problem (events)

 

 

• The end of the story tells:

-         how the problem is solved

-         what finally happens

 

 

 

 

 

            The main characters of this story are Emily, Isaiah, Frederick, Thomas, Massus, Mas’r, Yardley, Aunt Jen and Moses.  This story takes place in the United State’s south before the Civil War.  The problem is that Emily and Isaiah are in slavery.  They have to work against their will.  They are not free and have to obey others.  Emily and Isaiah are struggling to survive in the story.  They get punished for things they could have not gotten punished for.  Emily gets in trouble for looking in a book, and Isaiah gets in trouble for stealing a chicken for a sick girl.  The characters in the story tried to work for the owners.  The owners treated them badly even after when they obeyed.  The problem is solved Harriet Tubman lead Emily and Isaiah to the North to freedom.  Emily and Isaiah escape to the North for freedom.  With the help of the Underground Railroad they are free people now.
