1.     Write down the word commotion, the page 3, and the paragraph number 1

 

  1. Copy the sentence from the book in which the word appears.  But Missus heard all the commotion and came upstairs.

Write down an explanation telling how this word adds meaning to the story.  Think about the characters, plot, setting, theme, etc.  This word tells a good description of Aunt Jen’s hand.  This word is a better word to use that fast or carefully.  This word broadens the reader’s vocabulary.

4. Look up the word in the dictionary.  Using the dictionary definition and everything you know about the word, write your definition of the word. 

      To bump into, hit, push, or strike something.

 

5.  Write down an explanation telling how this word adds meaning to the

     story.  Think about the characters, plot, setting, theme, etc.  This is a better word to  use instead of hitting or striking someone.  This also means more than just to hit someone.  This shows the aggression towards slaves, and Emily.

  1. Write down an explanation telling how this word adds meaning to the story.  Think about the characters, plot, setting, theme, etc.  This word is more historally accurate that slave catchers.  This is a word that they would have used back then.  This makes the story more accurate and real.
