EXAMPLES:

P. 18 par. 2-3. Dialect Passage: "Nothing, thank you,...... he said "

I choose this passage because it represents dialect between Jack, Annie and the cart driver. It includes, the driver yelling, Jack and Annie 's conversation and questions in conversation. This passage was a good selection of different kinds of dialogue.

Thinking Question: Why did the cart driver yell at Jack and Annie?

Answer: They were in the middle of the street and they were about to get ran over.

This passage adds conversation between the main characters. It gives the reader a good idea of what Jack and Annie are experiencing as they walk the streets of London.

P. 27 par. "A man.....brilliant reader!"

I chose this passage because it is a great descriptive section. You can see an image of the man who is talking to Jack. it explains what he looks like. Their is dialogue also in this section which describes what the man is thinking as he is talking with Jack.

Thinking Question: What is the man complementing Jack on?

Answer: His brilliant reading.

This passage adds foreshadowing to the story. As you read it you wonder who this man is and what if Jack is going to help him.

P. 32 par. 1-3 " Why not?.......as shadows!"

I choose this passage because it has a simile in it. The simile describes how Jack and Annie will have to act when they get involved in the play.

Thinking Question: What is Will asking Jack and Annie to be like in this simile?

Answer: "Be as swift as shadows" He wants them to waste no time and get involved in the play. it also implies that they need to hide the fact that Annie is performing because it is against the rules for a girl to perform on stage, so Will wants her to remain in the shadows.

This passage adds suspense to the story, to see how they will make Annie look like a boy so she can perform in the play.
