For the closure activity, each group will
share their family from their book with the class.
Each group will have come into contact
with a particular type of family in their books.
Each group will then think of a way to
present their type of family to the rest of the class.
- They can choose a particular scene
from their books that clearly shows the family and how the family members
interacted with each other. Or they can make up their own situation and how
they think their book family would have acted.
- Through dramatization, they can show
how their family worked.
- Encourage students to play the part
using costumes, props and appropriate language.
- Try and have students really show what
the family is about.
Each group will then present their
"family" to the class.
Have the class discuss the similarities
and differences they see in the families.
- Are the historical families different
than more modern ones?
- Are all families the same in
structure?
- Is there a common theme in all types
of families, meaning does one thing bind them together?
- Do all families get along all the
time, or are there times of hardship, no matter what?
- What are some things that affect
families and cause them to be different? Time period, money, circumstances,
death, etc...?
