change from where they were to the Midway? Does the mood change with the
setting?
Answer: The setting changes from a clean “white” town

excitement and action and so the mood seems to go from calm and clean to loud
and exciting.

Question: The effect is that the family worked like beavers for
a week. What was the cause of all of this work? Why do you think the family had
to work so hard?
Answer: The cause of all of this work was that they
were going to the fair for a week. The family had to work as hard as beavers
because most of the family was not going to be there so the family members left
at home would need help for the week that family
members would not be there. Also the family members that were going on the trip
may need food for the trip.

Question: The phrase “…so big it made us mice” does this
statement literally mean that the fair made them mice?
Answer: This phrase is a metaphor because it compares
two things by not using like or as. The fair did not literally make them mice
it was just so big that it made them seem like small mice compared to it. The
phrase can make you imagine the fair being this huge area and the family as
tiny mice walking through it.
