Fact/Opinion
What did you think about Gram and Gramp’s story of how they met and married? Do you think the story went with their personalities and if so, how?
I thought their story was very sweet. Gram chose to marry him because of how he treated his dog. And they were given the marriage bed as a present, which was a very nice gesture. I thought the story fit both of them. They were both wild and free spirits so it was only natural for them to get married and have a free and wild life together. It went along with the fact that trouble follows them.

The effect is Gram ends up in the hospital. What is the cause?
The cause is a water moccasin snake bites her. The three are playing in the river and don’t see the snake before it is too late.
Was the boy at the river a hero or a villain? How?
He was a hero. He sucked the poison out of the snakebite on Gram’s leg. He did not have to do that but he did and did it all the way to the hospital. He even kept Sal company at the hospital. He was hero in all his help to the three.
What does the singing tree mean to Sal? Why does it not always sing?
The tree is a reminder of her mother. It seemed like it was singing because of all the birds. It was just a happy memory for Sal. It also went along with her feelings. If she was okay and not sad she could hear the singing but if she was upset she blocked out the pretty singing.
