This passage is suspenseful because it raises suspensions about the young man. The reader does not know why he is there, just that he is nervous. It makes you wonder what he is doing and why he is really there.

This passage is interesting because it talks about being a mother. It gives insight on Sal’s mother and why she felt she had to leave. It is just a really interesting view point on being a mother.
