Walk Two Moons is a book that follows a girl on her journey to visit her mother. She travels from Ohio to Idaho with her Grandparents. They are following the same path her mother took while trying to find herself. Sal spends the time telling her grandparents all about Phoebe Winterbottom, a girl she met when her and her father moved to Euclid, Ohio. Underneath Phoebe's story is Sal's story of trying to come to terms with moving and losing her mother. Sal is in a rush to find her mother by her mother's birthday but fate has other plans. Sal's grandparents take their time; spending time with each other and their grandchild. They hit a few problems but somehow keep going. Sal finds strength in tell her her grandparents her story and finds strength in her self as she faces the truth of her mother. Sal and Phoebe's story intertwines and goes from crazy families they know, dead bodies in back yards, to Phoebe believing her mother has been kidnapped. Sal completes Phoebe's story and goes on to finish hers as she faces the truth of her life and the hardships life brings. Sal finds memories of her family and has to learn that family whether alive or in memories is often worth more than you will ever know.
