Director for Molly’s Pilgrim

Question #1:
(References Pages 3,10,11,19, &26)
Why did her Classmates
not accept Molly?
Molly and her family were from Russia
and they were all very different. They
looked differently and dressed differently from the rest of the people in Winter
Hill. Molly’s English was not perfect so
they always seemed to pick on her when she could not say a word or pronounced the
word wrong. After all, she did not even
know what Thanksgiving was.
Question #2
(Reference Pages 2, 11,12,19, &23)
What kind of person do
you think Elizabeth was?
Elizabeth was
always the leader of the pack. What ever
she did the other girls would follow.
She would always tease Molly with that terrible song and follow her home
singing it. Her piercing laugh made a
hole in Molly’s heart, which is exactly what she wanted to do. Elizabeth
was callous as she destroyed little Molly, laughing at her every time Molly
made a mistake. Elizabeth
was always there like a bad shadow. When
Molly did not know about Thanksgiving, she insulted her even more and
embarrassed Molly while she was trying to read aloud. When Molly brought in her pilgrim doll,
Elizabeth
taunted her until she showed it to her.
The girls started laughing at Molly and told her that she was going to get into
trouble for the doll she made. When the
teacher came around the room Elizabeth
burst into laughter once again when Miss Stickley got to Molly’s seat. Elizabeth
is a snobby little girl who has to be the center of attention or she will just
die.
Question #3
(Reference Pages 23,24, &26)
What causes
Miss. Stickley to put Molly’s pilgrim doll on her
desk?
Molly’s doll was a reminder to the class that pilgrims were
still coming to America. They came to find freedom from being
persecuted because of their religious beliefs and to find peace from war.
Question #4
(Reference Page 10)
How did it make you feel when Molly was getting picked on?
Why did she not want her mother to come to school to talk to the teacher about
her problem?
I think she reacted like many of our school children
would react now. Molly was being
independent and did not want her mom trying to fix her problems for her, but
mostly I think she was a little embarrassed by how her mother was different
than all of the other mothers in the town.
If her mother had gone to school the teasing would have just gotten worse for her and Elizabeth would
have known she was a tattler.
Question #5
