Closure activities and assessment

Formative assessment: During the literature circle unit I will be assessing their literature circle jobs and their improvement as the unit progresses. I will also be assessing their comprehension by the discussion and as they present their jobs. As we are reading out loud I also plan to stop periodically during the book and ask simple comprehension questions to make sure they are understanding the material as well. All written jobs will be used for assessment purposes.

Summative assessment: The summative assessment for my unit will be an ABC book developed by the whole class on this time period. First I will split the letters up among the students. Then I will have them create designs drawing or using the computer to illustrate what their letter stands for about the colonies or Revolutionary War period. This will not be on the characters in their books, but more in general about the time period.
