The Bear and the Fox
By: Hannah Spencer and Jami Robinson
There once was a bear and a fox that lived in the deep dark forest which had a little stream that provided food and water for the animals. Every morning the bear went out to catch his meal for the day, and every morning the fox met the bear at the stream. Everyday the fox asked the bear to teach him how to fish, but everyday while the bear was teaching the fox to fish, the fox would slowly eat everything the bear had caught. Once the fox was full, he would sneak off leaving the bear to catch his meal for himself. Never ever did the fox learn to fish, he just continued to eat what the bear caught each day. Then one day, the bear became really sick and died. But no one told the fox. The next morning when the fox showed up at the stream, the bear was no where to be found. The fox waited and waited while his stomach growled and growled; since he had never learned to fish the fox went day after day with nothing to eat. Eventually, he grew very very weak and died of starvation.
If you give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. If you teach a man how to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime.
