Summary:  The beginning of this section describes an encounter that Thomas feels with a ghostly spirit in the night hours.  It is another chapter where Thomas is confused to whether or not he is dreaming or in the awake state of being.  The Small family visits a church in their new town and experience scrutiny as well as kindness from the new community that they are members of.  Pluto is considered an outcast in the congregation and the Small’s witness a scene at the service.  Mr. Small discovers triangle figures that compose a Greek cross.  This discovery may be foreshadowing.
