CONNECTOR

Your job is to connect the book to the outside world.  This means asking yourself these questions and writing a paragraph, connecting one of the following passages from the book to your life or someone you know.

Does this part of the story remind you of any other story or book you have read or heard?

Yes, it reminds me of Tuck Everlasting.  Winnie could be considered as an abolitionist like Dies Drear.  The Tucks could be compared to slaves of the water of life.  She sacrificed herself possibility of getting in trouble to free the mom from jail.  Dies risked his life in the name of freedom for the slaves.  Winnie and Dies have similar altruistic character traits.  They both take incredible risks as fearless crusaders for their causes.

Does this part of the story remind you of anything that has happened to you, a friend, or family member?

Yes, it reminds me of where I currently live.  I live diagonally, across the street from Danner Cemetary in Vilas, NC.  During the winter, my van won’t make it up my driveway and I have to park at the cemetary.  It was a1/4 mile walk to my house at least twice a day during this past winter.  My imagination ran wild during my walks to the house.  I understand how Thomas’ imagination gets the better of him in the tunnel and the house in Ohio.  I also can relate to feeling spirits from the cemetary.

Does this part of the story remind you of a movie or television show you have seen?

Yes, it reminds me of the Amityville Horror.  A family moves into the house after it has been abondoned several times and people have lost their lives in it.  It is similar because there is a legend that is passed through oral tradition in each of the towns that the houses are built.  The Smalls moved into a house that was a legend in Ohio as an Underground Railroad.  Mrs.Small was not as informed of the history as was Mr.Small.  Nevertheless, they moved into a home that was considered haunted as did the people in Amityville.
