Artful Artist

I chose to create a collage to illustrate my favorite part of this section.  The collage is a collection of hands, and in the center, the hand is holding a Star of David pendant.  This is symbolic of the scene in Annemarie’s bedroom, when she and Ellen heard the soldiers coming.  Annemarie remembered at the last minute that Ellen was still wearing her necklace and told her to take it off.  Ellen was struggling to get it off, because she’d never taken it off before.  Annemarie jerked the necklace off of her best friend’s neck and held it in her hand.  She took a huge risk by hiding the necklace in her hand, because if the soldiers had found her holding it, Ellen, Annemarie, and her family would have been in a lot of trouble.  Annemarie cared so deeply for her friend, though, that she was willing to risk her safety to protect her friend.
