An Invitation from Your Journal
I am your personal journal.
I am designed by you, the author, for whatever purpose you decide that suits you.
I am a valuable tool capable of capturing and preserving your special thoughts and memories as you pour them out of your heart and mind, through your pencil, and onto my paper.
I am your personal journal.
I am not only a tool, but a trusted friend as well.
Your thoughts can be expressed freely and safely on my pages without fear of criticism or rejection.
I value all of the thoughts you express in words, pictures, and any medium you choose to use on my pages.
Remember, what you record on my pages is an expression of who you are, and the person who you are matters.

1. Write about an experience:
April 15
I forgot my lunch today. I got so hungry that I ate my homework. My teacher made me write “I will not eat my homework” ten times. When I finished, I ate that too.
(from Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin)
2, 3, and 4. A thought, idea, or a memory:
July 29
I wish that people wouldn’t judge all spiders based on the few spiders that bite. I know that if we took the time to get to know each other, we would get along just fine.
(from Diary of a Spider by Doreen Cronin)
5. Your feelings:
June 5
Daddy Longlegs made fun of Fly because she eats with her feet. Now she won’t come out of her tree house. I’m going to find him and give him a piece of my mind!
(from Diary of a Spider by Doreen Cronin)
6. Your hopes:
July 4
When I grow up, I want to be a Secret Service agent. Spider says I will have to be very careful because the president might step on me by mistake. “It’s a dangerous job,” I told him. “But someone’s got to do it.”
(Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin)
7. A dream:
May 8
Had the worst nightmare last night— giant birds playing hopscotch. Mom says I have to stop eating so much garbage right before I go to bed.
(Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin)
8. What you have learned:
March 29
Today in gym class we learned how to catch the wind so we could travel to faraway places. When I got home, I made up flash cards so I could practice:
1. Climb high.
2. Release silk.
3. Catch wind.
Fly made up her own flash card:
1. Fly.
I’m starting to see why Grandpa doesn’t like her.
