Everyone is afraid to take on Strong Frankie in the pull-up contest, but William steps forward and says he'll do it.

 

2. Trait: Heroic

Pg. 62-63

William hangs onto the pull-up bar for a while and everyone starts to laugh at him. He really wants his class to win the contest, so he gives it everything he has and ends up doing more pull-ups than Strong Frankie. Everyone in the class is surprised and very proud of him. They call him a hero, and Junie B. lets him wear her Captain Field Day cape.

 

3. Trait: Perseverant

Pg. 65 Par. 2-6

William did not give up when everyone in the class laughed at him and thought he was too wear to do more pull-ups than Strong Frankie. He had practiced every day since Christmas, and he knew he could do it.

 

William's Goal

William wants to do pull-ups in the Field Day competition, and he wants to beat Strong Frankie.

 

William's Problem

Everyone thinks William is too weak to beat Frankie.

 

Solution

William is brave and volunteers to enter the pull-up competition. He does more pull-ups than Frankie and proves to everyone that he is a hero and he is stronger than he looks.
