Cinderella Retelling

The Farmer Princess

Cindy Lou lived in a small town right in the smack dab middle of the Appalachian Mountains.  She lived with her loving father, stepmother, and stepsister on a huge farm of about 50 acres.  The daily duties were assigned between Cindy Lou and her stepsister, Sue Ann, but that was not at all how it was done.

Early in the morning, the cows had to be milked and the chickens fed, but Sue Ann was not a morning person.  Once Cindy Lou’s dad was off to work Sue Ann and Emma Jean, her stepmother, would put her fast to work.  They would order her to do this and do that, and to please her father she would get right to work and do the chores.

One bright and sunshiny day Cindy Lou decided she was not going to take any more demands from Sue Ann and Emma Jean.  She set out on an adventure to see what else she could explore.  She packed a lunch and headed off, where to? who knows, but anywhere was better than the farm.  It was only a mile down the road when she encountered a handsome fellow, named Fred.  They began to make small talk and as the time passed, they learned more and more about one another.  Fred had been sent off to live with his grandparents on their farm for this next year while his mother and father sorted out their problems.  This was a sad tale, but they both related to one another and agreed to meet once a week at this very spot in the woods to talk and get away.

Emma Jean and Sue Ann noticed that Cindy Lou would disappear every so often and be gone for the afternoon.  Sue Ann decided one day she was going to follow Cindy Lou and see where she it was she spent these days.  She watched from afar and discovered her secret.  Sue Ann rushed back to tell her mother and together they devised a plan.  They agreed they had to do something to stop Cindy Lou from seeing this handsome guy because Sue Ann was jealous and wanted him all for herself.

Both Sue Ann and Cindy Lou were very attractive girls.  However, their personalities were much different.  Cindy Lou had a kind and gentle heart, where as Sue Ann was only out to win and get what she wanted, at any cost.  This was one thing people could see right away when they met the two girls.

One afternoon Sue Ann and Emma Jean knew Cindy Lou would be leaving to meet Fred.  They knew the exact route she took so they hid in the bushes and waited for her to pass by.  It wasn’t long until Cindy Lou came skipping along cheerfully when she fell into a gigantic hole, deep into the ground.  Cindy Lou was not badly injured, but she began to cry out for help.  To her dismay no one even heard her desperate cries to get out of the hole.  She was devastated and knew Fred would assume she was standing him up.

Once Cindy Lou was out of the picture, Sue Ann set out to meet Fred herself.  She made up an awful story about how Cindy Lou was tired of hearing him complain and wanted nothing more to do with him anymore.  Fred was very hurt by this, and of course Sue Ann was to the rescue him from a lonely afternoon without Cindy Lou.

Fred soon realized how devious and deceptive Sue Ann was by her sneaky ways of flirting and the way she would talk about Cindy Lou, like she was a terrible person.  He soon began to dream of Cindy Lou again, and wondered where she could be.  He knew her heart and convinced himself she would never do that to him.  So, he set out to find her.

Now a couple hours had passed and Cindy Lou had given up all hope.  She knew she was doomed to die in this dreadful hole.  Fred told Sue Ann he would be going on his way and for her to run along home.  As Fred traced Cindy Lou’s steps home, he discovered the hole.  He just knew she had to have fallen into the hole and be trapped.  He called down and Cindy Lou immediately perked up and shouted back joyously.

Fred ran home as fast as he could and grabbed a rope.  He threw it down the hole and Cindy Lou was back on solid ground.  They hugged for what seemed like an eternity.  Fred told Cindy Lou what Sue Ann had said and they both knew she was behind tearing them apart.

Cindy Lou returned home just as her father arrived from work.  She explained to him her afternoon and he was very upset with Sue Ann and Emma Jean.  He told them how disappointed he was and Emma Jean’s judgment.  She promised she would never pull such an awful stunt again.  So the two of them made up.

Fred and Cindy Lou bought land just down the road and built a quaint little house.  They were married shortly after and had three children.  The farm is doing great and their crops are flourishing.  As for Sue Ann no one has yet to take her hand in marriage, we’re still waiting for a change of heart on her part!!  And thus the farmer princess lives happily ever after!!
