1.  There are jack rabbits, white tailed jack rabbits, and snowshoe hares.

2.  Jack rabbits have brownish hair and are about 12-24 inches long.  They weigh anywhere from 2-11 pounds. Jack rabbits also have long ears.  The snowshoe hares are more medium size, varying in size from 8-18 inches long.  They weigh somewhere around 2-8 pounds.  This hare has shorter ears, and has hind legs that are around 6 inches long.

3.  Hares eat mostly plants.  They eat green grasses, daisies, and strawberries in the summer.  During the winter they eat twigs and leaf buds.  Both the jack rabbits and the snowshoe hares eat these types of food.

4.  The average lifespan of a jack rabbit is about ten years.

5.  They prefer to live where soil is lose and dry and where brushwood offers shelter.

Interesting Facts:

*They produce 4-8 litters of young each year with 3-8 in each litter

*They have a very keen sense of hearing

*The snowshoe hare changes its coat 2 times a year, from a brown coat to a white fluffy coat
