This section begins
with Klaus, Violet, and Sunny all having an allergic reaction. They
walk into Aunt Josephine’s house and they are in a hurry. Klaus goes
strait to the library and finds books on words, and vocabulary. Klaus
is trying to decode a letter that Aunt Josephine has left them. The
note looks like a suicide note but is really a fake. Aunt Josephine
is not really dead, but she leaves a message in the note that Klaus figures
out. He pulls different letters out of the words in the note and
it spells out, “Curdled Cave”. The Baudelaire children find a map
under Aunt Josephine’s bed and began on their journey. There is a
hurricane coming and the house is not sturdy and they know that they must
hurry. The house starts to shake and they run out just in time to
see the house crumple down into the lake. It was a sad moment for
the children. They however have to go on and they go to Damocles
Dock, but the ferry is closed for the night. They see a light shining
in a distance and they read a sign that says, “Captain Sham’s Sailboat
Rentals”. They go over to see if they can steal a sailboat from Captain
Sham but they need the keys to unlock the gate. They look inside
and they see one of Count Olaf’s comrade inside holding the keys, asleep.
Sunny goes inside and steals the keys and before they can get the gate
unlocked Count Olaf’s comrade is after them. He tries to get them
but they are in better shape than he and they get on a sailboat and go
out to search for Aunt Josephine.
