Dr.
Anita Ware is currently a faculty member with the Principals' Executive Program
a constituent program in the University of North Carolina's Center for School
Leadership Development. She
co-directs the Instructional Leadership Initiative at PEP that involves school
based reform and research with eleven high poverty, high minority schools in
North Carolina.
Dr. Ware's
presentation will focus on a recent study conducted on three elementary schools
in North Carolina that have "beaten the odds" in improving student
achievement. Each of these three
schools made remarkable accomplishments in promoting achievement with students
who have not traditionally been successful.
Discussion will include the three ways in which these schools have
achieved success, 1) concentrating instruction on student performance, 2)
creating inviting school climates, and 3) guiding reform through energetic
leadership, and how their patterns of performance have transformed their schools
from places where failure was often expected to places where everyone now
expects to achieve.
Students, faculty, staff in the ROCE and local school leaders, as well as any interested parties, are invited to attend the presentation session
