Ms. Stacia Twan Sanders
Stacia T. Sanders was a freshman in 1986. She left school in 1989 to experience life. As a submariner's wife and reservist in the US Coast Guard, she spent many years packing and unpacking across the United States. In the fall of 2001, Stacia decided it was time to continue her education and returned to the place that felt most like home. ASU welcomed Stacia and her three children. No longer a freshman, this non traditional student learned to juggle school, work, and family. She is an active member of the Hispanic Student Association, and was the Volunteer Coordinator for High Country Amigos. She serves as an English as a Second Language tutor at Saint Elizabeth's Catholic Church on Sundays. She graduated from ASU in December of 2003 with a BA in Spanish and English and a minor in TESL. Her work experiences in many multicultural communities plus the many influences of ASU's faculty and staff: Dr. C. Mamola, Dr. R. McGarry and Mrs. Joy Clawson (in LAP); plus the leadership of Dr. W. Flemming and Dr. H. Williams (who are also ASU Alumni and were students when she was here the first time) have led Stacia to pursue a career in Adult Education. Stacia has found her home in Leadership and Educational Studies along with a Graduate Assistantship.
"I am very grateful to have the opportunity to enhance my life and the quality of life of others. Not everyone receives a second chance at life. My mother, Lelia Sanders, has been my biggest cheerleader, and supporter throughout my life. I am so happy that she is able to see me continue my education and the life she gave me."
