About the Faculty...

Michael Dale, Ph.D.

Professor, Leadership and Educational Studies

Once again, Michael Dale has been selected by the Hubbard Center for Faculty and Staff Support to serve as a mentor to a new faculty member during the 2001-2002 academic year.  This involves attending an orientation to the Mentoring Program, participating in a new semester Kick-off program with his mentee and meeting at least once a month to discus questions or concerns.  Michael will be working with Michael Hale, a new faculty member in Curriculum and Instruction.  This mentoring component has proven to increase faculty satisfaction, productivity, and retention.

Linda O'Neal, Ed.D.

Associate Professor, Leadership and Educational Studies

On October 4, 2001, Dr. Linda O'Neal was notified by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) that the MSA Programs' application to be a partner in the SREB University Leadership Development Network was considered exemplary.  ASU was one of only twelve southern regional universities selected to participate over a three year period.  There were a total of 70 university proposals submitted and ASU clearly met and exceeded the criteria required.  "The goal of the University Leadership Development Network is to design, deliver, and evaluate a school leaders program that emphasizes the critical success factors for comprehensive school improvement and higher student learning and achievement that can be adopted by other institutions of higher education."

Linda received the assistance of Ralph Hall, J.D., George Olson, Ph.D., Paul Smith, Ed.D., Stephen White, D.A., Alice Naylor, Ph.D., Suzanne Mellow, Ed.D., Dee Petty, Ed.D. and Charles R. Duke, Ph.D., Dean.

On Monday October 8, 2001, the Higher Education Program faculty met with students for their Fall New Student Orientation.  Participating faculty included Dr. Barbara Bonham, Program Coordinator; Dr. Chuck Claxton; Dr. Ralph Hall; Dr. George Maycock;  Dr. E. Michael Sutton; and Dr. L. Arthur Safer, Department Chair.  The agenda included brief introductions, an overview of the Reich College of Education and the Graduate School procedures relative to Programs of Study; Comprehensive Examination, Admission to Candidacy; and Graduation.  The final segment of the orientation was a presentation by two of the Higher Education students, Kelly Rhodes and Gail York-Scimeca, who related their personal experiences and perceptions about the program.
