Last spring, Hunter Boylan and Barbara Bonham were invited to help the University of Alaska--Fairbanks develop programs for improving retention among native Alaskans. As part of this project, they visited remote Yu'pik Eskimo villages, met with educators and tribal leaders, and observed village schools and the local community college. Their experiences included travel by bush plane and automobile, dining on caribou, moose, and pickled salmon, attending a native cultural festival, and observing Yu'pik children in village schools. Their presentation includes video clips, Powerpoint slides, and displays of artifacts from the Yu'pik culture.
