Myrla C. Gibbons Doxey

Myrla has been a graduate assistant in the Department of Leadership and Educational Studies since August 2001, excluding the spring semester of 2003 when she took a leave of absence from the University.  She is a Master of Arts, Marriage and Family Therapy Candidate and will receive her degree in December 2003.  Myrla has been active in leadership throughout her graduate career, including serving as a panel member on the graduate school's new student orientation team in the Fall 2003; president of the Alpha Epsilon Lambda Honors Society for Graduate and Professional School Students in the Fall 2002; Marshall at the Graduate School Graduation Ceremony in Spring 2002; Spokesperson for the Marriage and Family Therapy Program during visits to the undergraduate psychology classes; representative in the Graduate Student Association Senate (GSAS) for the LES Department; and committee member for the Marriage and Family Therapy Program Student Handbook revision.  Also, she has carried a 4.0 GPA, making the National Dean's List every year.

Myrla would like to thank the Department of Leadership and Educational Studies administration, faculty, and staff, as well as Dr. Edelma Huntley, Senior Associate Dean of the Graduate School, for their encouragement and support throughout the past two years.  Together, Myrla states, they have made her journey through graduate school enjoyable and unforgettable.  "Thank you all."

Myrla is from Lockport, New York, a city just to the northeast of Buffalo.  Upon completion of her graduate education, Myrla will be relocating back to her hometown where she plans to pursue a career in Marriage and Family Therapy and, in particular, work as a counselor in her local church, The Lockport Assembly of God.  She hopes to begin a family with her husband, Michael, once she settles back in at home and in her career.
