Problem Sets

These are problems to be completed as homework. The problems will be graded as follows:

Each problem in a set is scored

4 If correctly solved and reported
3 If the approach used to solve the problem is correct, but the final solution is reported correctly, but the solution itself is incorrect.
2 If the approach used to solve the problem, while incorrect has a sensible rationale.
1 If a proposed solution is reported, but both the approach used and the solution are incorrect.
0 If no attempt to solve the problem is reported.

Typically, each item in a set will have several components. In many cases you will get some of the components correct and some (hopefully, few) incorrect. In this case my score for the multi-component item will include a degree of subjectivity on my part. Still, however, each Item will receive a score from 0 to 4.

The problem scores will be summed and averaged to yield you total score for the Problem Set

At the next session, following  the date the Problem Set is due, you will be given a short quiz related to the solution to the problems in the Problem Set. Your performance on this quiz will be taken into consideration when computing your final grade on the Problem Set.
