Forum 6: Use data to formulate hypotheses about student performance.

Several suggestions were made in NCEE (2009) report on using student data. One of these, given in Recommendation 1, and applicable to Classroom decision-making, was to use data accessible to the teacher to formulate hypotheses concerning actions that the teacher could take to affect students' performance. For this forum, which should be completed on or before the end of the week (Friday, Jan. 25) you should try this. Specifically, in your response:

     1. Give a brief description of the data you use to formulate a hypothesis about student performance;

     2. State the hypothesis along with a rational or explanation of the hypothesis (why this hypothesis); and

     3. Provide a brief description of how you expect the collection of additional data will help you support or dispute your hypothesis.

There are examples of how to do this in the NCEE report.
