Headers and Footers

What to do when adding a header or footer in Microsoft Word and do not want it on the first page of the document:

  • The first thing that you do is write the paper and then add your headers and footers.
  • Once you are ready to add you go to the top page and go click on you View button then go to the Header/Footer option and click on that.
  • Once your format bar comes up you will then need to work on the formatting that you would like to use.

  • Since you are on the first page of the document and you do not want anything on this page you will need to go to the Page Setup button:
  • Once you have clicked on the Page Setup button you will then see the Page Setup box pop up with several tab choices.  Make sure that you are in the Layout section of this box.
  • Then all you must do is put a check in the box that says Different first page and click the ok button.
At this point you are ready to either leave the first page header or footer blank or put in a different one then the other pages.
  • Once you are ready to do the common header/footer all you have to do is go to the second page and click on the Header and Footer option just like you did on the first page, but this time you just start typing instead of formatting.
  • REMEMBER always read your screen and you will be fine!
