ITC 5620
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Participate in class, in individual chats (audio and text), blogs, wikis, online discussions boards and other communication tools concerning readings, issues and topics presented. This will include research into topics outside of text materials and responsibility for presenting and sharing information with other class members.
    

2. Share any outstanding websites in the appropriate manner with the class.
    

3. Complete the following three projects:

1. Develop a personal statement of your vision of technology integration in instruction.

2. Develop exemplars of using computer technology in a learning environment.  You may use activities you have developed for other classes.

3. Develop plans for helping other teachers to integrate digital technologies into learning environments.  To support the development of your plan conduct interviews with teachers and leaders in order to complete a needs assessment for individual and group needs. This may include visiting several school sites.

Actual topic and scope of each project will be negotiated between participants and the instructor. The last two projects may be completed in collaborative groups.

The activities you develop as part of your projects should include:

• Problems to solve

• Knowledge to structure

• Assurance that each group member will achieve competence with each type of tool

• Requirements for collecting, analyzing, and making decisions about the content learned

• Requirements for active collaboration within and between groups of students

• Demonstrate a direct connection to the classroom, school, or district goals and standards.

Projects will be presented to the entire class at the end of the semester.

As you develop your projects and plan for your presentation please include the following:

• What you gained, personally, from developing this project.

• Identify with whom you interacted in cross-program, cross-cohort and within cohort groups and grade level/subject area and what you gained by working with these different groups and different people.

• Your team: Reflect on the people, places, tools, and resources you relied up to complete your project as well as make decisions.

• The impact: reflections on what direct, indirect, observed and/or hidden differences this project has had or will have on your students, parents, colleagues or school leaders - and how you know.

• Who, outside our program, was involved? Please identify folks who were involved in developing or implementing this project but were not enrolled in our classes. (Your principal, students, parents, superintendent, etc.)

4. Select and read a book (within a group of 3-5) that explores 21st century people, skills and knowledge. Share the key concepts and insights from this book on the discussion board.
    

5. Complete a reflection paper that includes:

• an initial self-assessment of skills and knowledge done at the beginning of the class,
• a summary of activities undertaken during the class to add to or increase existing skills and knowledge, and an outline of goals and possible activities for continuing to add to or increase existing skills and knowledge.
• a self analysis of what you have gained personally from the class,
• an indication of individuals and groups you have interacted during the course both within and outside your cohort, what you gained by working with these different folks.
• your contributions to your groups and what, if anything you will do differently,
• the impact, direct and indirect that what you have learned and been involved with in the course will influence change in your classroom, school or district.
• who, outside our program you contacted or worked with during this course.

As usual, feel free to vary this assignment so that it is the most meaningful for you and your colleagues.
