Teaching and learning in distance education
Dr. Richard Riedl
Dick, who will teach your telecommunications course next semester, has been exploring distance ed. issues and various delivery systems for many years. I know you will enjoy working with him in discussing ideas related to this new paradigm in education. He may or may not have time to put together a web site for you but will hav e many resources from which to draw.....have fun....

Assignment
We
will set up set NCIH sites at Forsyth and CPCC for meeting spaces for next class
session (Nov. 16). Groups of 3 will work to design and present a 45 min lesson on
one of the following topics. While these are not in concrete and I expect much flexibility
within each area, I'm thinking of such things as how to develop case studies for use in
instruction, teaching strategies to use with cases/ analyzing cases, evaluating
students using case studies, and so forth. I would expect that each team will find a site and
learn the operation of the equipment, although each site is slightly different
in the equipment they have and the technical support available. Most are set up
for lecture, with a camera on the teacher, a document camera so that you can
show slides, overheads, print/text, etc, and a switch that projects a computer
screen to the remote site. The objective that I have for you is to explore this type
of learning environment as a student as well as experience it as a teacher...to
explore ways of fostering communication and small group discussion between and
among groups, etc....I also want folks to investigate the use of case studies as
a teaching form ....
Dick will assist you with this....
Please look at the announcements section of this site for final information concerning our next meeting.....
