Midnight Magic

Section 8

INVESTIGATOR

For the investingation, I looked at two websites provided by the teacher.  They are:

http://www.phys.ufl.edu/~phy3054/light/mirror/applets/convmir/Welcome.html and http://www.factmonster.com/ce6/society/A0859669.html.  After viewing the two websites, I developed a short write up that I will share with my discussion group.

From the second website, I would like to share that in a convex shape, such as a mirror, the vertex (center) is nearer to the object than the edges—the mirror bulges toward the object. The image formed by it is always smaller than the object and always up-right. It is never real because the reflected rays diverge outward from the face of the mirror and are not brought to a focus, and the image, therefore, is determined by their prolongation behind the mirror as in the case of the plane mirror.

The first website is a great place to go and experience how the convex mirror or shape works.  This web site allows you to slide the mouse and watch how the incoming rays (angle of incident) and the reflection rays (angle of reflection) change as the mouse moves.
