Section 1 p.1-33
- Write down the word trudging,
the page 1 and paragraph number 2.
- Copy the sentence from the book in
which the word appears. Or it’s winter and you sled to the bottom of Halftank Hill, and you’re trudging back up and there
he goes zipping down, screaming his head off.
- Re-read
the sentence in which the word appears.
Think about the word, the sentence, and the story. Write
down what part of speech you think the word is verb. Now, write down what you think the word
means. Walking heavily, in a
stomping manner.
- Look
up the word in the dictionary. Using the dictionary definition and
everything you know about the word, write
your definition of the
word. Walking in a tired motion.
- Write down an explanation telling
how this word adds meaning to the story. Think about the characters, plot,
setting, theme, etc.
Using the word trudging creates
a better picture of showing how Donald was walking. Instead of saying he was tiredly walking,
trudging sounds so much better and is much more descriptive.
- Make your word wizard card. Be sure to include in LARGE PRINT your word and the page and paragraph number. On
the other side of the card you should draw a picture to represent your word, the word, and the definition
of the word.
