Closure Activity
After reading the books Thanksgiving on Thursday and The Little Red Hen we will finish our KWL chart by filling in the last column showing what the students Learned. We will then discuss the book and the importance of what we learned, not just concerning Thanksgiving but also concerning the hard work Little Red Hen and the Pilgrims put into their feasts.
The last activity we will do in this unit is called "Thankerchief". Everyone gets in a circle and we pass around a handkerchief and sing the poem below. To demonstrate how it works I will recite the poem and say what I am thankful for and then we will begin to pass it around. If the handkerchief lands on the same person twice we will just hand it off to the nearest person on their right who has not gone yet. This will help me assess whether students have grasped the concept of Thanksgiving.
"Thankerchief"
Thankerchief,
Thankerchief, around you go --
Where you'll stop, nobody knows.
But when you do, someone must say,
What they are thankful for this day.
