Quakers are a sect of Christians who believe that an "Inner Light" within each individual is a divine revelation. Therefore, the Quakers have no ordained ministers, members of the congregation are allowed to speak once they are moved to do so. The "rules" of the Quakers may seem quite strict but their lifestyle is very important to them. Quakers are not allowed to drink alcohol, attend dances, marry non-Quakers, marry without prior approval, and they may not live in over luxurious ways.

Quakers, in large, settled primarily in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New Jersey and the Carolinas. The Philadelphia area was a big area for Quaker settlements. As Americans started to move westward so did the Quakers. Large amount of Quakers moved into Ohio and continued into Indiana and Illinois.
