List what you consider to be the 5 most most critical issues facing you and your technology program today. In groups of 3-4, discuss each of the issues you listed and the implications for your students, school and community. Summarize your group discussions for the class.

What are the current needs for instructional computer environments in your institution? What barriers currently exist to prevent their creation? Outline a one page letter to the president of your institution describing your needs and the needs of your program. Discuss these in a small group.

In groups of 3, decide upon a book to read and discuss together. Share a summary of your discussions with the entire class on the discussion board between meetings. Set up a chat room for your small group to use for these discussions.

Lunch

Program and course orientation

Before you leave today:

Please complete the on-line database class contact form.

You will need to install the AppEdTech Browser on the computers that will be used for our classes at Forsyth Tech and at home. The software can be downloaded from: http://www.lesn.appstate.edu/appedtech/download.htm. I'll get a username and password to you.

Much information is sent to your ASU student email account. Please have this account forwarded into your personal account. http://www.lesn.appstate.edu/appedtech/cp.htm will give you instructions to do this.

We have set up two listservs for you: one listserv for our cohort (asuit-forsyth), and one listserv for all students in our program (asuit-L) to which we will each need to subscribe. This will enable us to communicate with our whole cohort. You may find directions for these at Logging onto the listserv.

Subscribe to the discussion board for general class discussions.

Develop a chat room to pursue your small group discussions and activities:

Subscribing to Yahoo.  Once you have a Yahoo username and password, go to Yahoo Chat.

Go to the AOL website and subscribe to AOL Instant Messenger (it's free, and doesn't require you to belong to AOL).  Then, Instant Message (aka "IM") each other.

Be prepared to discuss your thoughts - and your experiences - with the whole class during the next class meeting.
