Don’t forget about the two vocabulary activities.

1. frontier p. 5

2. "Nome was a frontier town."

3. The word frontier means: a border between settled and unsettled country. Also it means a place to farm.

4. This word adds meaning to the story because: it describes what the land is like in Nome. There is land that is settled and unsettled, which would probably means that Nome borders land that is unsettled. Also the word frontier means farming land. Since this book is set during the winter it doesn’t go into the farming in this town. The word frontier gives a lot of information about what the town Nome is like.
