Theme: The Moon

Level: Grade Three

The Moon Literature Circle Unit was designed to meet the instructional needs of students on-grade-level in a third grade classroom.  This unit focuses on space, specifically on the Earth’s moon.  Phases of the moon, what the moon looks like, and astronauts landing on the moon will be explored.  This unit includes two books that are explored in depth about the moon.

The Moon Book is an information picture book that explains the Earth’s moon, the biggest and brightest light in our night sky.  This book gives information on how the moon affects the oceans’ tides, why there are different phases of the moon, and why there are eclipses.

Midnight on the Moon is a science fiction book about an exciting adventure with Jack and Annie.  The Magic Tree House is whisked away to the moon- and the future.  Jack and Annie learn a lot about the moon while trying to find how to break a spell.
